Arthritis, Inflammation, Swelling and Pain

Unlike in the past when arthritis was associated with old age, today people of all ages and gender are prone to suffering from arthritis. It’s commonly known as pain of the joints, but studies have found, that it’s not just a single disease but rather a collective condition that causes pain, swelling, joint stiffness and decreased ability to move. Its symptoms vary from mild to moderate but gets severe over time.

There are two types of arthritis

Degenerative or osteoarthritis. This is when the cartilage cushioning surface on the ends of bones wears away, causing bones to rub against each other. As a result one suffers pains, swelling, and stiffness and overtime joint can completely lose strength and the pain becoming chronic. Risk factors have been associated with eating disorders, excess weight, as well as family history.

The second type is inflammatory arthritis, which can either be Rheumatoid arthritis or Psoriatic arthritis. These are triggered by environmental factors which may cause inflammation. For example, smoking or eating the wrong foods.
